Daily College Life: The Food Budget

Daily College Life:

The Food Budget

College can surely bankrupt you.
Especially if you are already break from all the bills you're paying,
Welcome to Adulthood

Saving money is difficult when you're in school for hours in a day studying.
You go to school on a full stomach and by the time your second class ends you're hungry again. Sometimes it's worse, you could only be in your first class and be hungry. What's an emotional go-getter college lady/college mommy to do?

If I could give you solid advice that literally works it would be this:

• Pack your own lunch

• Pack your own snacks
• Bring $10 or $20 cash maximum
• Bring use your 'campus wallet' which only has essentials: drivers license/state ID, $10 or $20 cash, student ID, photocopy cards, $2 to $5 in change in case you need to photocopy, and a post-it with emergency contact info, keys attached to it

•Always keep your campus wallet in your bag

•Bring your canteen and/or thermos, refill your canteen with filtered water dispense in campus if they have one if they don't suggest a few to be installed to your student government council - usually purchasing coffee with your thermas gets you a discount of about 10% to 20% off on campus or local coffee shops
•Create a daily check-list to save you time (Organize Your Life: Daily Check-List)

The Best Part (sort of):
>><  Leave your credit cards and other things at home because if you bring it with you, you are most likely to use it

>>< Keeping only $10 to $20 cash in your 'campus wallet' will prevent you from spending your money on the unnecessary and it will help you make better decisions on where you will spend that money

>><< Make sure to choose healthy snacks here are some ideas:

**IF YOUR SCHOOL DOES NOT HAVE HEALTHY SNACKS IN THE CAFETERIA OR VENDING MACHINE IT'S TIME YOU SPEAK WITH YOUR STUDENT LIFE OFFICE OR THE STUDENT GOVERNMENT COMMITTEE**

IDEAS FOR HEALTHY SNACKS:

Luckily, my school has Pistachios and Trail Mix packages in their vending machines.
Although it can be pricey, but remember to spend your money wisely.
Eating mixed nuts much healthier than a bag of cheap chips.

Starbucks:
Starbucks. It's not a college student's best friend. Not because of the addiction we get but the expensive price ranges. The controversial debate of $4 for a small Coffee, is indeed controversial.
As much as I absolutely love Starbucks and how ethical the company is, I really think they should start having student discounts. We're broke!
We are the brokest generation of 20 somethings ever. Can we please get half off!?
We promise to buy 5 more coffees as we work on that Midterm Paper in MLA/APA format.

In the bag is an iced coffee, a peach parafait + an orange I brought from home & a water bottle that I bought in bulk from CVS.

Bringing Lunch from Home:

Oatmeal cookie, a seasonal peach from Georgia, some tea & dried Mango.
These are some great options for healthy snacks to pack with you.

Avocado Salad in a Cup
Here's my delicious recipe: Avocado, Cucumber, Home-Made Gluten Free Garlic Bread and Feta Cheese in a to-go cup with a lid. Recycle & Repurpose those cups!
